Abstract

Objective To investigate the protective effects and mechanisms of atorvastatin in the patients with diabetic nephropathy. Methods The effects of atorvastatin on the proliferation, the expression of AM mRNA,TGF-β_1 mRNA and content of AM,AngⅡ,laminin, type Ⅳ collagen,~fibronectin of the cultured human mesangial cells under high glucose condition were observed in vitro. Results Atorvastatin had a significant inhibition of the expression of TGF-β_1 mRNA and AM ~mRNA and the proliferation of the mesangial cells cultured under high glucose condition, and could also decrease the concentrations of TGF-β_1,AM,AngⅡ,laminin and type Ⅳ collagen in the matrixes.~Conclusion Atorvastatin has renal protective property that was associated with its suppression on the expression of TGF-β_1 and the proliferation of human mesangial cell cultured under high glucose conditions. The expression and secretion of AM decreased as the expression and secretion of AngⅡ and TGF-β_1 declined.
