Abstract

Objective To investigate the growth inhibition and apoptosis induction effects on rat C6 glioma cell by genistein in vitro. Methods The growth inhibition and apoptosis induction effects of genistein on C6 cell were observed by MTT,Hoechst33258 fluorescence, flow Cytometry, transmission electronmicroscope and agarose gel electrophoresis. Results The IC50 of genistein to C6 cell was 18 μg/ml,genistein at 5~70 μg/ml inhibited growth of C6 cell.Hoechst33258 fluorescence, flow Cytometry, transmission electronmicroscope confirmed both apoptosis and death of C6 cell were induced by genistein. Conclusions Genistein can induce death and apoptosis of C6 cell;it may be a promising glioma inhibitory agent by direct induction of cell death and apoptosis.
