Abstract
Based on provincial panel data, the paper analyzes the regional disparity and dynamic evolution of higher education efficiency in 31 provinces in China adopting the Super-efficiency DEA mode. Then using spatial data analysis method, the contribution degree of TFP(total factor productivity)to higher education efficiency is analyzed.Following results have been obtained. Firstly, from the point of time series, the efficiency of higher education has increased;the regional differences of higher education efficiency are significant, and the efficiency in eastern region is higher than that in central and western regions. Secondly, the efficiency of higher education has significant spatial agglomeration effect. Thirdly, the TFP has increased from 2003 to 2011 primarily due to technical progress. Lastly, the improvement of higher education efficiency depends on TFP increase, and the effect of technical efficiency improvement is more significant than technical progress.
