Abstract

Recent studies indicate that interstitial cells of Cajal(ICC) are gastroenteric pacemakers and play an important role in gastrointestinal motor activity.The most important advance in ICC study came with the recent findings of ICC expressing the gene product of c-kit.The cell signaling pathway via c-kit and its ligand stem cell factor(SCF) is essential for the occurrence,development and maintenance of ICC networks,which will provide a new idea for the intervention of gastrointestinal motor disorder.
