Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between carotid intima media thickness(IMT) and plasma fibrinogen(Fg) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T 2DM).Methods 112 patients were chosen and the level of plasma Fg was measured in these patients.Meanwhile, carotid IMT was observed with high resolution ultrasound, data of 35 healthy persons was taken as the control group. Results The levels of IMT and Fg in T 2DM group were higher than those in the control group. The T 2DM patients were divided into IMT≤0.9mm group,IMT0.9mm group and plaque group. The concentration of plasma Fg was significantly increased in plaque group, compared with that in IMT≤0.9mm group and IMT0.9mm group.Positive correlation was found between the concentration of plasma Fg and the level of IMT(P0.01).Conclusion The level of plasma Fg was significantly increased in type 2 diabetic patients and correlated with the level of IMT.To T 2DM patients.Fg plays an important role in the progression of carotid atherosclerosis.
