Abstract

To evaluate the prevention, effect and achievements of IDD elimination in Sanming city 1 The evaluation of stage objective (1997 2000): The stage objectives were evaluated by evaluation group of the city and provincial government respectively according to government documents 2 Surveillance: Goiter, urine and salt iodine were detected for aged 8 10 students by PPS method in every county The mean score of 3 comprehensive indicators in 12 counties was 91 4 The qualification rate of salt storehouse, retail shop and the users of iodized salt were 94 3%, 98 7% and 96 6% respectively The median of urine iodine was 221 5 μg/L and the percentage of 20 μg/L was 1 4%;The goiter rate was 5 0% The qualification rate of goiter, the level of iodine salt and urine iodine reached to the standard of IDD elimination Surveillance results (in 2001): The total goiter rate was 4 0% The qualification rate of iodine salt was 99 2% and the user rate of qualified iodine salt was 96 6% The coverage of iodine salt was 99 2% The median of urine iodine was 217 3 μg/L and the rate of urine iodine 20μ g/L was 1 1% The stage objective of IDD elimination reached the national standard in Sanming in 2000 A stage of IDD elimination sustainability has reached in 2001
