Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of Simvastatin on the arterial elasticity in patients with essential hypertension and coronary disease. Methods Twenty-four patients with essential hypertension and coronary disease were treated with Simvastatin 40 mg every night for five years. Brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity(baPWV) and systolic blood pressure(SBP), diastolic blood pressure(DBP), pulse pressure(PP), blood glucose(GLU), total cholesterol(TC), low-density lipoprotein(LDL) were measured before and after 5 years. Results SBP, PP and Glu were not significantly changed after five years. DBP was higher after five years.BaPWV was not significantly changed after five years. LDL and TC decreased significantly after five years. Conclusion It indicated that simvastatin could prevent the increasing of arterial stiffness in patients with coronary disease combined with essential hypertension.
