Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of various penetration enhancers on ex vivo transdermal permeability of recombinant human interferon α-2b. Methods Transdermal enhancers with various components in various proportions were prepared. Using the modified Franz diffusion cell and the ex vivo raw rabbit skin as the barrier, the cumulative dosage of transdermal human recombinant interferon α-2b was calculated by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. Results Different enhancers exhibited various extents of penetration action, with the order of 3% menthol +3% propylene glycol 3% menthol 3% azone +3% propylene glycol 1% azone +3% menthol 1% menthol 3% azone+ 3% menthol 1% azone 1% azone+3% menthol 3% azone +1% menthol 3% azone. Conclusion Menthol, propylene glycol as well as azone could be the transdermal penetration enhancers of recombinant human interferon α-2b.
