Changes of serum endothelial microparticles and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 levels in patients with diabetic nephropathy and its implication

Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate the changes of serum endothelial microparticles and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 levels in patients with diabetic nephropathy and its implication.METHODS 90 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were selected and randomly divided into simple diabetic group(30 cases),early diabetic nephropathy group(30 cases)and clinical diabetic nephropathy group(30 cases)according to excretion rate of their urinary albumin,a total of 30 healthy people were enrolled as control group.The level of serum endothelial microparticles and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 levels were determined.The endothelium-dependent flow-mediated dilatation(FMD)was determined with ultrasound.RESULTS The serum endothelial microparticles and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 levels were increased by degrees from the control to simple diabetic,early diabetic nephropathy,clinical diabetic nephropathy groups(P﹤0.05).The endothelium-dependent flow-mediated dilatation levels were decreased by degrees from the control to simple diabetic,early diabetic nephropathy,clinical diabetic nephropathy groups(P﹤0.05).There was a significantly positive correlation between the level of endothelial microparticles and FMD(r = 0.421,P = 0.021).There was a significantly negative correlation between the level of endothelial microparticles and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1(r =-0.487,P﹤0.05).CONCLUSION The serum endothelial microparticles has clinical values in reflecting the degree of endothelial inflammation and dysfunction in patients with diabetic nephropathy.
