Abstract
ObjectiveTo study the relationship between the deletion , mutation of p16 gene in exon 2 and carcinogenesis, histopathological typing of gastric cancer. Methods The deletion and mutation of p16 gene in gastric carcinoma were detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and PCR-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP)techniques respectively. Results All 55 specimens of primary gastric carcinoma showed no event of p16 gene mutation in exon 2, but 10 cases of them (18.8%,10/55) displayed its deletion in exon 2. Conclusions The mutation of p16 gene in exon 2 may not be involved in gastric carcinogenesis, but its deletion in exon 2 is possibly related with the occurrence and progress of gastric carcinoma. [
