Abstract

AIM: To explore the correlation between pulse wave velocity(PWV) and indexes of ambulatory blood pressure(ABPM) in patients with hypertension.METHODS: A total of 200 patients with hypertension were divided into two groups: nonelderly(60 years) group and elderly(≥60 years) group. In both groups, patients were subdivided into two groups: PWV9 m/sec group and PWV≥9 m/sec group.Clinical data,PWV and indexes of ABPM were collected and the correlation between the indexes of ABPM,other relevant factors and PWV was analyzed.RESULTS: Compared with those in the nonelderly group,waist/hip ratio, pulse pressure(PP),pulse pressure index(PPI) and PWV in the elderly group were significantly higher(P0.05 or P0.01).Systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP),PP and PPI of patients in PWV≥9 m/sec group were significantly higher than those in PWV 9 m/sec group in the same group(P0.05 or P0.01).Pearson correlation analysis showed that PPI was more closely correlated with PWV than with body mass index(BMI),PPI,PP,SBP and DBP.CONCLUSION: PWV is correlated with PP,SBP and DBP and significantly correlated with PPI in patients with hypertension.
