Abstract
The development in the field of synthesis of butyl butyrate and the catalysts adopted such as sulfonic acid, inorganic salts, solid super-acid,heteropoly acids, enzyme catalysts were summarized.Features with respect to the reaction conditions, properties of catalysts and synthesis process were described. The predominance of every catalyst on the product yield, reaction time, post treatment process, whether the catalyst can be reused, whether water stripping agent is to be used, whether the catalyst is easy for use and conserve were discussed. The development of highly effective and environmental friend catalyst system loaded on solid carriers and without the use of water stripping agent is the trends of the research work in this field.
