Abstract

Ischemic postconditioning is defined as a procedure of rapid intermittent periods of reperfusion and ischemia in the early phase of reperfusion after long myocardial ischemia.Ischemic postconditioning is the endogenous protective mechanism capable of protecting the myocardium from myocardial necrosis, dysfunction and vicious ventricular arrhythmia induced by ischemia/reperfusion injury.Research has been done on its mechanism, signaling pathways and potential clinical applications. This review will cover recent developments in ischemic postconditioning.
