E-Cadherin expression in bladder transitional cell carcinorma

Objective To assess the relation and clinical significance between E-Cadherin expression and the biological behavior of bladder transitional cell carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemical method was used to detect E-Cadherin in 63 cases of bladder transitional cell carcinoma and 6 normal bladder biopsies as controls.The results were analyzed,and combinated with clinical and pathological data. Results Normal E-Cadherin expression was found in all the 6 normal bladder membranous tissues.Abnormal E-Cadherin expression was found in 42 cases of bladder cancer (66.7%) indicating that abnormal E-Cadherin expression correlates with both increased grade,stage,high recurrence and poor survival. Conclusions E-Cadherin expression is closely related to the malignant progression of bladder cancer.The detect of E-Cadherin expression is helpful in predicting the biological behavior of bladder transitional cell carcinoma.Therefore,E-Cadherin could be used as an useful molecular marker for predicting the progression,recurrence and prognosis of bladder transitional cell carcinoma.
