Abstract

New Fe3Al intermetallic based friction materials were prepared by mechanical alloying and hot pressing. The preparation technique, microstructure and mechanical properties, oxidation resistance and dry sliding tribology properties were studied. Fe3Al intermetallic based friction material showed low density, high strength, good oxidation resistance, smooth friction coefficient and excellent wear resistance. There are different wear mechanisms during different friction stages, including particles wear, crack nucleation and propagation, brittle split and oxidation wear etc.
