The Relationship between Gan(赣) Dialect and Xiang(湘) Dialect from the Phonological Character

Abstract

Firstly,this paper investigates the uniform phonological character of Gan(赣)dialect and Xiang(湘) dialect in Jiangxi(江西)and Hunan(湖南).Secondly,a comparison is conducted between the two dialects and other neighboring dialects with the aid of the emigration history.This paper points out that the mostly uniform character reserve phonological character in the dynasty of Tang(唐)and Song(宋)or earlier.The Gan(赣)dialect had a very limited effect on the Hunan(湖南)dialect by the means of immigrants from Jiangxi(江西). Consequently,it is concluded that the relationship between Gan(赣)dialect and Xiang(湘)dialect were considerably close in the dynasty of Tang(唐)and Song(宋).
