Abstract
Objective To investigate the characteristic MRI appearances of multiple sclerosis(MS) in the spinal cord. Methods 18 cases diagnosed clinically as MS were examined by MR.All image appearances were analyzed. Results Cervical spinal cord was involved in 8 cases(44.4%);cervical and thoracic spinal cord simultaneously in 7 cases (38.9%),thoracic spinal cord in 2 cases (11.1%) and whole spinal cord in 1 case (5.6%).The lesions were manifested as patches in shape and long ribbon shape with low or iso-signal intensity on T_1WI and high-signal intensity on T_2WI,enhanced MRI scan was enhanced or without enhancement. Conclusion MS of spinal cord has characteristic feature on MRI and MR is the most important and sensitive method for diagnosing spinal cord MS.
