Comparison of the clinical effect of external fixation and internal fixation in the treatment of unstable distal radius fracture

Objective To evaluate the clinical curative effect of external fixation and internal fixation in the treatment of unstable distal radius fracture. Methods Two hundred and six patients of unstable radial fracture were selected as the research objects. All patients were divided into internal fixation group and external fixation group,each with 103 cases. All the patients were followed up for 18 months, and the clinical curative effect was compared.Results According to the Gartland and Werley Standard, the excellent or good rate in external fixation group was84.5%, and that in internal fixation group was 85.4%, with no significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).Better clinical curative effect was shown in internal fixation group than external fixation group for Type B fracture(84.1% vs 66.7%, P0.05), while clinical curative effect was in external fixation group for type C fracture(88.2% vs70.0%, P0.05). Conclusion The external fixation and internal fixation in the treatment of unstable distal radius fracture have equal curative effect and can be chosen according to the AO typing.
