A Probe into Humorous Effects of TV Programs from the Perspective of Cooperative Principle——A Case Study on If You Are the One

This paper probes into the dialogues in If You Are the One based on the theoretical framework of Grice's Cooperative Principle, with a view to discovering humorous effects and conversational implicature in a certain context. Through the analysis of representative dialogues which obey and violate the maxims respectively, this paper concludes that speakers, by appropriately violating the maxims and unconsciously observing the maxims of the CP, manage to achieve humorous effects and conversational implicature. Meanwhile, this paper aims to help people express themselves appropriately to avoid pragmatic failures and achieve the goal of communication.
