Abstract

The ancient Chinese imageryis a basic category in ancient Chinese critical theory and aesthetics.The creation of imagerygoes through three processes:the respective gestation of meaningandimage,the gestation of imagery,the theoretical formation and the development of imageryby the critics of different dynasties.Imagery,on one hand,presents colorful styles and expressive ways in the literary works,and on the other hand,as its theory is formed by the dynamic relationships betweenmeaningand image,formandspirit,andmeaningandimage,it embodies the critical theory connotation and aesthetical meaning.
