Abstract
[Objective]To explore the clinical relationship between nodular goiter and coexistent thyroid cancer and their diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.[Methods] 410 cases of nodular goiter and 55 cases of coexistent thyroid cancer from 1996—2006 were conducted retrospective clinical analysis, combined with literatures.[Results]The incidence rate of nodular goiter associated with thyroid cancer was 13.4%(55/410).All patients were treated by operation,55 cases of thyroid cancer were diagnosed by intraoperative frozen section pathology.Secondary surgeries have been done for 6 cases of recurrence. No deaths, prognosis was good.[Conclusion]Thyroid cancer closely related with nodular goiter. It can be associated with nodular goiter or be secondary to nodular goiter.Preoperative diagnosis is difficult.Traditional concepts of surgery after occurrence of concomitant symptom should be changed.Positive surgical treatment, can not only avoid omission, but also early detect and treat thyroid cancer. After the operation, thyroxine replacement therapy can prevent recurrence of disease.
