Abstract

Head-space gas chromatography was applied to the determination of 4 residual organic solvents,i.e.ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, toluene and ethyl benzene,in cigarette packing materials and the effects of various analytical conditions were studied and optimized.Linear relationship were obtained in the ranges of 0.4-120 mg·L-1(for ethyl acetate and toluene),1.2-600 mg·L-1(for butyl acetate) and 0.5-150 mg·L-1(for ethyl benzene).Precision and recovery were tested and values found were in the ranges of 2.5%-3.1% and 90%-95% respectively. The proposed method has been applied to the analysis of carton and aluminum foil samples for the residual organic solvents.
