Abstract
The microstructure of fine equi axial nondendritic grains of alloy A356 needed in the semi solid forming is obtained by liquidus casting The influences of casting temperature, heat preservation time and cooling rates on microstructure of liquidus casting alloy are investigated The grain of liquidus casting alloy A356 becomes large and spherical with the increase of casting temperature and the increase of heat preservation time The grains become fine with the increase of cooling rate The microstructure of ingot casting in the iron mould is finer than that in the graphite mould The grains in the middle of the ingot is larger, more spherical and more uniform than that in the edge The fine semi solid slurries of A356 alloy can be obtained by liquidus casting
