Cephalometric study of adults with normal occlusion in Xi'an using Steiner method

Objective To establish the cephalometric standard values of adults with normal occlusion in Xi'an China using Steiner and Tweed method in order to provide theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis and scientific research in orthodontics and orthognathic surgery.Methods We measured the lateral cephalometric films of 120 adults (59 males and 61 females) with normal occlusion in Xi'an using Steiner and Tweed method by professional software.Then,the mean and standard deviation of each parameter was obtained.Next,the differences between genders were analyzed.Finally,we compared the data with those in Beijing and Yunnan area.Results The cephalometric standard values of adults with normal occlusion in Xi'an using Steiner and Tweed method were established.Moreover,the parameter of SE had statistically significant difference between genders,with the larger value in male (P0.05).There existed statistically significant differences in several parameters of adults with normal occlusion between Xi'an and other regions (P0.05).Conclusion There are little differences in dental and facial structures of adults with normal occlusion between genders in Xi'an,however significant differences between Xi'an and other regions.
