Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of internal fixation of radial head fractures with type Mason Ⅱ to Ⅳ.Methods A total of 41 radial head fracture cases with type Mason Ⅱ to Ⅳ admitted from March 2002 to June 2012 were treated, including 18 cases of type Ⅱ,17 cases of type Ⅲ and 6 cases of type Ⅳ according to Mason typing.Open fracture was found in 2 cases, with type Ⅱ and type ⅢA for each according to Gustilo typing.Multiple fractures were combined in 9 cases. The duration of injury to operation was 3 hours to 30 days with an average of 6.7 days. The internal fixation was Kirschner wire fixation in 8 cases, screw fixation in 11 cases,micro-plate fixation in 15 cases and absorbable screws fixation in 7 cases. Results All 41 patients were followed up for 4 to 28 months with an average of 10 months. All fractures achieved healing.According to the Broberg and Morrey elbow score judgment, the outcome was revealed excellent in 22 cases, good in 12 cases, fair in 4 cases and poor in 3 cases, and the fineness rate was 82.9%(34/41).Kirschner needle slipping to subcutaneous was found in 2 children and taken out after fracture healing. Conclusions The surgical intervention of internal fixation can improve the prognosis of elbow function for radial head fracture patients with type Mason Ⅱ to Ⅳ.The specific measures of fracture anatomic reduction, firmly fixed effects, good stability of joint repair and early functional exercise can help patients get good effect.
