Trimebutine maleate in combination with bifidobacteria in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome

Objective To compare the curative effect of trimebutine maleate in combination with Bifid.With that of trimebutine maleate alone in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS).Methods 96 patients with IBS were randomly divided into two groups.50 patients of the treatment group were given each 200mg of trimebutine maleate,po,t.i.d.and two pills of Bifid every day.Triple viable power,po,t.i.d;46 patients of the control group were given 200 mg of trimebutine maleate alone,po,t.i.d.The course of treatment in both groups lasted for 4 weeks.Results The curative effect in the treatment group was 94%,while that of the control group was only 78%(P0.05).the effect of remitting abdominal distension,diarrhea in the treatment group were much better than those of the control group.Conclusion Trimebutine maleate in combination with bifid triple viable power is effective in the treatment of IBS.
