Effect of Tongxinluo Capsule on blood lipid and endothelial function in patients with Alzheimer disease

Objective To observe the effects of Tongxinluo Capsule on blood lipid endothelin and nitric oxide in patients with Alzheimer disease(AD) accompanied with hyperlipoproteinemia.Methods Forty patients with AD and hyperlipoproteinemia were divided into experimental group(n=20) and control group(n=20)randomly,and basal treatment was given to both groups.The experi-mental group was treated with Tongxinluo Capsule 4 capsules 3 times a day.Changes of blood lipid.plasma ehdothelin.nitric oxide and clinical symptom were observed after administration of the medicine for 4 weeks.Results As compared with the control group,after patients had been treated with Tongxinluo Capsule for 4 weeks,significant improvement was shown in lipid abnormality.The levels of total cholesterol(TC),riglyceride(TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),endothelin(ET), were lowered and nitric oxide(NO) increased obviously.The effect of both remedies in elevating HDL-C was similar.Conclusions Tongxinluo Capsule has definite regulatory effect on the blood lipids and lipoproteins in patients with AD and hyperlipoproteinemia,and can improve endothelial function.
