Expression of MMP-9 and relation between MMP-9 and proliferative activity in gastric carcinoma

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP 9) in gastric cancer and to discuss the relation between MMP 9 and the proliferative activity of tumor cells.Methods:In 74 cases of gastric cancer,immunohistochemistry (S P method) was used to calculate the positive rate of MMP 9 and proliferative cell nuclear antigen labeling index (PLI).The clinical pathological parameters were analyzed at the same time.Results:In gastric cancer,the expression of MMP 9 was closely related to the depth of invasion,differentiation and metastasis of lymph nodes ( P 0 05).The stronger expression of MMP 9,the higher level of PLI ( P 0 01).Conclusion:The carcinoma cells with high proliferative activity have the strong tendency to secrete MMP 9 and MMP 9 plays an important role during the invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma. [
