The Diminutives in HJH Dialects in North Zhejiang

Abstract

This paper sums up the diminutive types and their distribution of areas in HJH(Hangzhou,Jiaxing and Huzhou)dialects in the north of Zhejiang based on field investigation.It considers that the -←→λ diminutive of Hangzhou has an evident coloring of Mandarin and the -n diminutive of Yuhang is typical type of diminutive in Wu Dialect while the diminutive tone of Jiashan has surpassed the scope of ordinary diminutive.The diminutive tone of Linglong,Linan is a phenomenon of being generalized in diminutive that has something to do with tone system.
