Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effects and the security of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy for the treatment of secondary cataract and discuss the available method for its complication prevention. Methods Nityseven cases (112 eyes) of secondary cataract were received Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy. All of them were followed up for 8 to 16 months, averaging 12 months. Results Successful capsulotomy rate was 100%,the improved vision occupied 98.2%,and the postoperative visual acuity reached to 0.5 or better in 67.9% of the capsulotomy eyes.Postoperative complications in 15 eyes(13.4%) had induced increation of IOP temporarily. Six eyes (7.8%) had lowgrade IOL trauma. Conclusion The Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy technique is a safe and effective method to be used in the treatment of secondary cataract. It is important to remember that accurate arm and focus, lowenergy, few pulses and small capsulotomy can prevent complications effectively.
