Abstract

Objective:To study the relationship between the expre ssion of urokinase type plasminogen activator (uPA) and invasion, metastasis of human gastric cancer. Methods:The expression of urokinase type pla sm inogen activator in cancer, cancer adjacent tissue and normal tissue was determ ined by immunohistochemistry. Results:The expression of uPA in cance r tissue was significantly higher than in cancer adjacent tissue and normal tissu e ( P0 01) , and the expression of uPA was significantly associated with the depth of cancer invasion, the metastasis of lymph node, the rate of lymph node m etastasis, the growth pattern of cancer and the differentiation degree of cancer ( P0 01) . The expression of uPA was not correlated with the size of cancer . The positive expression location was in the cytoplasm of cancer cell. Con clusion:The high expression of uPA might be significantly associated with invasion and metastasis of human gastric cancer.
