Abstract
Objective To study the effects of curcumin on up-regulate c-fos and c-jun mRNA in the kidney of diabetic rats.Method Rats were randomly divided into normal control rats(group A),diabetic rats group(group B),and diabetes treated with curcumin group(group C).DM rats were induced by STZ(65mg/kg),treatment group was given intraperitoneal injection of curcumin 30mg·kg-1·d-1.Five rats were killed in each group at the 4th week, and took the renal cortex of right kidney, used RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry to detect the expressions of c-fos and c-jun mRNA and protein level, respectively, and observed the pathological changes of kidney. Results The expression of c-fos and c-jun mRNA and protein levels in the kidney of diabetic rats was significantly up-regulate after 4 weeks, but those targets were reversed in diabetic rats treated by curcumin.Accordingly, renal pathologic changes were significantly improved. Conclusions Curcumin can decrease the damage of diabetic rats' kidney through inhibiting the up regulation of c-fos and c-jun mRNA and protein levels in renal cortices.
