Abstract

Objective To study the suitable diagnostic methods for urothelial cancers. Methods Clinical data of 108 patients with upper tract urothelial carcinomas were retrospectively analyzed. Results Rates of final diagnosis by ultrasonography, intravenous urography(IVU),and computed tomography(CT) for renal pelvic cancer were 63.8%,52.4% and 79.0%;of carcinoma of the ureter were 53.6%,26.3% and 90.0% respectively,in which, two cases were confirmed by CT urography(CTU),two by MR urography(MRU),three by ureteroscopy, and two by endoluminal ultrasonography. Conclusion In the diagnosis of upper tract urothelial carcinomas, ultrasonography may be used as a preliminary screening, and IVU as a routine, while CT,CTU,MRU,endoluminal ultrasonography or ureteroscopy be selected as supplementary based on need.
