Abstract

It was introduced that phenanthrene and pentachlorophenol (PCP) were sorbed onto the five sediments. The results showed that both sorption and desorption of phenanthrene and PCP on five sediments can reach equilibrium in less than 8 hours. The sorption capacity of sediment is significantly dependent on orga-nic matters content of sediment; and sediments with high content organic matters had high capacity of sorption and resistant desorption. The sorption coefficients of phenanthrene and PCP on sediments were proportional to the organic matters content of sediments. The sorption isotherms of phenanthrene and PCP on the sediments in Taihu lake, Yongjiang river, Qiantang river and Dianchi lake can be described with linear equation, while the sediment in West lake can't.
