Abstract
A new inhibitive drilling fluid was developed for use in the drilling operation in Jidong oilfield. This fluid was highly inhibitive in controlling the hydration, swelling and dispersion of shale formations and drilled cuttings. The bio-degradability of the additives used in formulating the mud was based on the consideration of the environment protection in Jidong area.Lab researches were done on the evaluation of the contamination tolerance, high temperature stability, inhibitive capacity, lubricity and formation permeability impairment etc.the result showed that this mud performed almost the same as ULTRADRIL(MI) in shale/clay inhibition, lubricity and reservoir protection, and can satisfy the requirements of drilling engineering in Jidong oilfield.
