Abstract

The comprehensive studies of the paleomagnetism, magnetical susceptibility, and intensity of the spontaneous magnetization from the 18 new and old boreholes of the Yangtze Delta Area prove that the Brunhes Normal Polarity Zone, Matsuyame Reserved Polarity, and Gauss Normal Polarity Zone as well as Gutenberg, Blake, Jaramillo, and Olduval Polarity Subzones are all present in this area and the lithostratigraphical, biostratigraphical, and dating data are in certain agreement with the result of micropaleontological and polynological analyses, being of important reference value in the Quaternary stratigraphic division. If is regarded in the same time that since the Yangtze Delta Area during the Quaternary age accepted the clastic sediments it has been generally a continues sedimentary province, without long-term large-scale sedimentary breaks.
