Abstract
Objective: To study effects of Baicalein and Baicalin on level of serum aminotransferases to evaluate their activities to protect against hepatic damage. Method: A rat model of CCl 4-induced hepatic damage was established and Baicalein and Baicalin were used to protect the liver against damage,and the levels of serum ALT, AST, ALB and TP were determined by biochemical method. Results: The levels of serum ALT and AST in Baicalein and Baicalin groups were significantly decreased compared with CCl 4 group(P0.01); no significant difference in these indexes was observed between Baicalein and Baicalin groups(P0. 05). Conclusions: Both Baicalein and Baicalin have some protection against CCl 4-induced hepatic damage, with no significant difference in activity between the two compounds.
