The Modernity of the Novels' Form In the Later Period of Qing Dynasty

The origination of the modern Chinese literature, not the new culture movement that occurred in 1917, should be the novels in the later period of Qing dynasty. Because the novels in the later period of Qing dynasty already has the quality that is different from the traditional novels and is embodied and developed in the 20 century. I will talk about the novels modernity from the aspect of the form: on the structure, the modernity was expressed in three ways that was not only the external form but also the internal oneness of the novels' content which make up the novels' frame. Great changes were made in the structure' s disciplines. The length was shortened and single polt novel appeared. On the narrative pattern, adopting the first person narrative pattern was the innovation. On the narrative skill, the flashback method was adopted. In the figure shape, the innovation was the description of the psychology.
