Abstract

A solid phase microextraction with high performance liquid chromatography (SPME-HPLC) method was used for the simultaneous determination of six phenols in water, including phenol, 4-nitrophenol, 3-methylphenol, 2,4-dichlorophenol, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol and pentachlorophenol. The chromatographic analysis was carried out using a ZORBOX SB-C18 column. Gradient elution was adopted with the mobile phase consisting of methanol and 1% acetic acid solution. The flow rate is 1.0 mL/min and the wavelengths of UV detector are 254 nm and 280 nm. The detection limits of the six phenols are 0.31-1.90 μg/L. The recoveries of the standard addition tests for the six phenols are 88%-103%. The method is simple in operation and can detect the phenols in water rapidly and accurately.
