Abstract

Objective To investigate the prevelance of hyplipidemia and its predisposing factors Methods A total of 4915 elderly residents aged 60 and over, randomly sampled form Chongqing urban areas by means of cluster sampling, were surveyed. Results Of the 4915 participants,431(8 77%)people were suffered from hypercholesterolemia, with 703(14 30%)people from hyper low density lipoprotein cholesterolemia and 772(15 71%)people from hypertriglyceridemia Concentration of total cholesterol(TG),triglycerides(TG)and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL C)in plasma in creased with ageing whereas concentration of high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL C)decreased with ageing Significant higher concentration of TG,TC and LDL C was found with lower concentration of HDL C in men, compared with that in women Those people overweight and with a history of tobacco and wine consumption also had higher prevalence rate of hyperlipidemia Conclusion The prevalence rate of hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia and hyper low density lipoprotein cholesterolemia in the elderly in Chongqing community was 8 77%,15 71%,14 30%,respectively Age,Male, overweight and history of smoking and drinking were risk factors of hyperlipidemia
