Abstract

Objective To evaluate the influence of root canal humidness on the accuracy of determining root canal length by ROOT ZX apex locator in vivo. Methods 30 teeth(single canal) with mature root apices were used in this study. All canals were measured by using ROOT ZX apex locator under different root canal humidness in vivo. Then the teeth were extracted and measured. The difference between electronic measuring length(EML) and the actual length(AL) was compared.Informed consent was obtained from each patient in advance. Results There was no significant difference between EML and AL(P0.05).Under dry and wet root canal condition, the ROOT ZX apex locator was 76.19%,100% and 90.48%,100% accurate to within ±0.5 mm,±1.0 mm respectively.Chi-square test showed dry/wet canal had no significant influence on the measurement(P0.05).Conclusion The accuracy of ROOT ZX apex locator in locating the minor foramen is not adversely affected by root canal humidness.
