Abstract
According to the stipulations of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and The Key Technical Rules of the State Desert Supervision, the range occurring desertification potentially in Inner Mongolia has been divided, and the situations of land desertification in Inner Mongolia has been monitored macrocosmically. In the process of monitoring, the technique of 3S is made full use, ground information have been obtained through the combination of field investigation and remote sensing interpretation. Moreover, the areas and degrees of desertification land have been calculated and determined by use of the principle of mathematical statistic. At the meantime, based on making sure of land degeneration within the range limited by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, the situations of land degeneration have also been investigated beyond the range of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. The results show: the area of land desertification is 74.39×104 km2 in Inner Mongolia, taking up 62.88 percent of the total area of land (118.3×104 km2) in Inner Mongolia, which has provided foundation for regional eco-environment development and design.
