A Study of Modern Chinese Vocabulary and the Mid-Ancient Chinese

Abstract

As to the division of the history of the Chinese language, most of the scholars adopt the view that it can be divided into four periods. The system of vernacular Chinese came into being and took its shape in the mediaeval and modern ages, so the relationship between the mid-ancient Chinese and the modern Chinese is very closely related. Therefore, only when a study of the modern Chinese vocabulary is connected with the mod -ancient Chinese, can a convincing result be produced.
