Abstract
Aim:To explore the expression and significance of matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 2(TIMP-2) in gastric tubular adenocarcinoma. Methods: S-P immunohistochemical method was used to examine the expression of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 in 47 specimens of gastric tubular adenocarcinoma. Results: Both MMP-2 and TIMP-2 were expressed in the gastric tubular adenocarcinoma cells and the positive expression rates were 21.3% and 78.7%, respectively. The expression levels of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 correlated with lymph node metastasis ( P 0.05) and serosal invasion ( P 0.05). Conclusion: MMP-2 and TIMP-2 might be important biological markers for determining the malignant behavior of gastric carcinoma.
