Abstract

The influence of bulk density and graphitization degree on hardness of C/C composites is investigated by means of measuring the rockwell hardness scales of C/C composites with different bulk densities and graphitization degrees. The results show that, for C/C composites, the rockwell hardness scales increase with the increase of bulk density at the same graphitization degree, and decreases with the increase of graphitization degree at the same bulk density. The influence of bulk density on hardness scales of C/C composites decreases with the increase of graphitization degree. For C/C composites with bulk density of 1.75~1.85 g/cm3, the range of graphitization degree can be estimated by the rockwell hardness. For C/C composites with certain bulk density and heat treatment temperatures, the microstructure type can be judged by the hardness scale of C/C composites in some degree.
