Abstract
During Ming and Qing dynasties, there exist two problems of deficiency in provisions and maintenance of domestic side occupations in rural economy in Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas. The article explores the activities and functions of Huizhou merchants in solving the two problems, beginning with analyzing the causes of the problems. At last, the article evaluates the functions of Huizhou merchants objectively.
