A Study of the Creation and Singing Style of HUANG Zi's Art Songs——Analysis on Homesick and Spring Nostalgia

Among HUANG Zi’s works, the art songs are the most influential ones. The lyrics, from the ancient to the modern poetry, are carefully refined. When handling of the relationship between music and lyrics, he tried his best on the flawless combination of the tone, rhythm, content and form in poem and music. He further integrates the Chinese with the western music ingeniously in vocabulary and writing techniques. The creation style is based on the pentatonic scale with the techniques of western composers, so that the songs have both the charm of traditional folk style and the characteristics of western romantic style. It should be noted to master the level of paragraphs and accurately catch the feelings, appropriately use the sound, reasonably arrange the rhythm, and focus on the articulation processing and the mode conversion in the performance.
