Abstract

Objective To assess the high-risk factors of lead exposure and explore the strategy of preventing and treating lead poisoning by analyzing the data of 112 children with high blood lead or mild lead poisoning. Methods There were 102 children with high blood lead and 10 children with mild lead poisoning diagnosed by detecting blood lead from the children visiting the out-patient clinic of children health care in our hospital from Apr 2006 to Dec 2008.By collecting and analyzing the data of the medical histories, the authors got the message of the common symptoms of lead poisoning, and helped the guardians of those children to discover the high-risk factors of lead exposure, and then provided guidance education relating to high-risk factors, environment intervention, behavior correct and nutrition guidance,in order to remove lead from the body of those children. Results The levels of blood lead of 112 children were between 102μg/L and 247μg/L,and the mean level of the blood lead was 151.3μg/L(standard deviation 33.3μg/L),the median value of blood lead was 146.5μg/L(quartile value of blood lead 126~175μg/L).The Children were in the environment of many high-risk factors of lead exposure. And the symptoms of lead poisoning characterized as the disorder of nervous system, digestive system, hematological system and so on.By way of providing guidance education above-mentioned,the level of blood lead of those children decreased significantly after three months compared with that before the intervention(P0.01).Conclusion Children are in the hazard of environment lead pollution and many high-risk factors of lead exposure. It is necessary to provide guidance education relating to high-risk factors, environment intervention, behavior correct and nutrition guidance so as to prevent and treat children lead poisoning, and the effects are good for children.
