Abstract
Objective To investigate the correlation of CD44V9 and nm23 protein expressions in patients with gastric carcinoma and its clinical significance. Methods CD44V9 and nm23 proteins in 60 patients with gastric carcinoma were detected with SABC immunohistochemical method. Results The total positive rate of expression of CD44V9 and mn23 proteins in patients with gastric carcinoma was 75.0% and 55.0%, respectively. In CD44V9 positive cases, the positive rate of nm23 (42.2%) was significantly lower than that in CD44V9 negative cases (93.3%)( P 0.001). The expression of CD44V9 in patients with gastric carcinoma was markedly correlated with histological type, invasion depth, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage ( P 0.01), while the expression of nm23 in patients with gastric carcinoma was significantly associated with lymph node metastasis ( P 0.05). Conclusion The expression of CD44V9 protein is negatively related to nm23 protein in patients with gastric carcinoma. They may be used as markers for predicting invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma.
