Abstract

Objective To study the relationship between body mass index(BMI) and blood pressure(BP) of the people aged 40~64 years old to provide reference for controlling cerebral artery disease risk factor. Methods Questionnaire, blood pressure, height and weight were measured in 515 people aged 40~64 years old in Nanhui district of Shanghai.According to BMI,they were divided into three groups: normal, overweight and obesity.Correlative analysis between BMI and BP was done. Results The rate of obesity, overweight and the average BMI were all higher in the group of hypertension than those in control one.BMI of female has more significant influence on BP(P0.01).With the increased BMI,diastolic blood pressure(DBP) and systolic blood pressure(SBP),except for SBP in group of male, were significantly different among three groups(P0.01).Relationship between BMI and BP was positively correlative with SBP(r=0.221,P0.01) and DBP(r=0.180,P0.05) of females, and DBP of male(r=0.141,P0.05).Conclusion Relationship between BMI and BP is significantly correlative in the people aged 40~64.And the correlation of BMI with BP of female was higher than that of male while the correlation of BMI with DBP is higher than that of SBP in male.
